about
Prior to his debut 2004 solo album, Stu Thomas released his own music as The Brass Bed, a band built around a rhythm section and a brass section. BB began to release stuff from 1997, starting with the "Low Key" EP. They played from 1997 until 2007 with a fluid lineup of talented folks.

"Save Your Breath" of 2001 was The Brass Bed's first full-length album, and it travels a myriad of styles. From funfair to funereal to funked-up, to mad loops to nighthawk blues-ness, and beyond. Stu was averse to pigeon-holing, and instead embraced and created musical hybrids. His band was 100% on the same page and there is really nothing like this ever on record. Corduroy Records took a shine to the band, and released the album.
in late '90's Melbourne, a number of bands started playing with brass elements, but The Brass Bed were definitely the first, out-punking everyone by pig-headedly rockin' out, MINUS GUITAR! Some punters scratched their heads, some were repelled, some lapped it up... The Brass Bed forged on blindly. They didn't have anything to lose, and if anything, non-acceptance drove them to more experimental highs. This album lassoes only a few of the kaleidoscopic roads they took in their existence.
Most of the album was recorded at Atlantis Studios (when they were located in Hawthorn, Melbourne, Australia).
8 was a 4-track recording from 1993, all parts played by Stu.
13 was a 4-track recording from 1994 (-ish).
